Timbr needs your help. We can save the communities only if enough people join it. Please spread the word. Reblog this post on Tumblr, retweet this tweet, or write about Timbr in your own words. Thank you.

What is Timbr?

Tumblr is changing: starting December 17, 2018, adult content will not be allowed on the site anymore. All existing content will be permanently hidden.

Yet Tumblr always was a safe space for NSFW artists and performers who have built and maintained diverse communities with hundreds of thousands of followers. More than 500K people signed petitions to reverse the change.

Vision

The most important part of Tumblr is the existing community. This is pretty hard to copy for the alternatives.

Here comes Timbr. We here will try to save as much as possible until the deadline. We start with copying blog content blog-by-blog. We are backing up all blog posts, photos and videos to Google Cloud and making them viewable forever. To save your own and your favorite blogs just enter their names on the main page.

Then blog owners will be able to continue posting to their the blogs over here without interruption. The readers will be able to log in with the Tumblr accounts (using OAuth) and follow the feed of blogs they've been following on Tumblr.

Let's rebuild the empire!

Principles

Right now, one week into development as of writing, the site is very minimal. As we progress, we want to make clear between us and the users what target we are heading to and maintain expectations. So here is the constitution:

Timeline

Minimal milestone: open to the world.

Urgent bucket: to be done before the turndown on Decembed 17, 2018. We need this to save the content.

Creators pack: to be finished before Christmas 2018.

Important stuff: to do in January 2019.

Nice to have.

Questions and Answers

How does this site work?
The site runs on Google App Engine, mainly for the sake of development expediency. All content is stored on Google Cloud Storage.
How expensive is to run it?
We have no idea yet. Depending on the numbers, we may need to speed up the monetization plans.
Who is behind this?
Just a single person, @nichtverstehen. The “we” on this page is singular :).
